ACEC CA BBC brings engineering, construction management, and land surveying professionals together to effect positive change for the industry. Through our efforts, we help to improve the built environment and affect decisions being made in our industry, from legislative advocacy to environmental issues. Our volunteers are the core of our organization, and allow individuals to represent their firms and themselves in leadership and decision-making roles.
Chairing or being on a committee represents a unique opportunity for you to get involved—to make an impact on the professional and business climate, to network, to share information and best practices, and to gain visibility among peers, agencies, clients and other professional organizations with similar interests. And you don’t need to be a member firm to participate as a committee member!
We are looking for interested individuals to participate (positions hold a term of one year, starting on July 1, 2021). Most positions require a time commitment of 2-3 hours a month. Our goal is to add new members to our already existing group of enthusiastic volunteers.
Outreach efforts to solicit applicants from Bay Area colleges for our annual engineering scholarships. Help plan and lead two fundraising events to benefit our fund. Help promote current and past awardees to member firms and on our website as they transition from college into the industry, as well as offer to connect them with senior members who might provide them mentorship. Work with the Student/Emerging Leader Committee to assist in organizing an event during Engineers Week in February.
- Student / Emerging Leaders
Maintain a monthly a social media campaign that connects our young members and students with events and opportunities in the Chapter region. Help plan and lead two events to connect young members with current students. Work with the Scholarships Committee, assist in organizing an event during Engineers Week in February.
Solicit financial support for our events by connecting with member firms about sponsorship opportunities and securing their support to increase their visibility and to promote their firm at our events. Help to see that sponsors are recognized on all communication promoting the event, during events, and help to ensure that they receive proper recognition for their support.
Communicate with our members about public policy issues, bills, and legal matters that affect our industry. Help educate our members on California legislation, as well as help reach out to our member firms about legislation that effect their businesses, as well as the industry overall. Help coordinate a yearly PAC fundraiser as part of, or separate from a scheduled event.
Recruitment of new or retention of current member firms and help connect with them about our events of interest, and introduce them to our scholarship winners.
- Industry Programs (Lunchtime/Afternoon)
Create events that are relevant to our members and potentially viable for pursuit purposes or future business development opportunities. Help reach out to prospective speakers to present those topics at our events. Once we’re able, the events alternate between Oakland and San Francisco, though most likely, at the start of the term, they will be virtual.
- Education and Training Programs (Breakfast)
Create member-only breakfast learning events that are relevant to our members. Once we’re able, the events alternate between Oakland and San Francisco, though most likely, at the start of the term, they will be virtual.
Chapter communications efforts, including branding, website, newsletters, social media, event promotion and ticketing, as well as providing input on how to better market our events. The focus is on enhancing the BBC’s image, both internally (to member firms) and externally (primarily to political and business leaders who engage engineering services and/or influence our industry), but also with the public-at-large who may not be familiar with our organization.
- Small Business Inclusion and Diversity
All efforts related to the inclusion of diverse individuals as speakers at our events, as well as a focus on M/W/V/D/SBE firm needs into our events. Help communicate our M/W/V/D/SBE member firms with outside industry events that may be of interest. Plan and organize the business-focused half-day A/E/C Proposal Symposium in the early part of the year with other Bay Area professional organizations.
